Artist Statement
I have been working as an artist for years, taking and giving workshops and classes, and exhibiting my work in personal and group shows here and abroad.
Over the decades of making art I have explored a variety of themes and styles. For this exhibit I have chosen a cross section: from micro close-ups of butterfly wings to memories of dresses. The unifying element is my interest in energy (élan vital, chi) which underlies all things animate and inanimate and in good moments courses through my eye and hand.
I have worked as artist in the schools and have given art lessons to students of all ages in my home/studio. I have taught in the Art Department and the Honor’s Program at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, also in the Split Rock Arts Program, as well as in Elderhostels through St.Olaf College and in the Cannon Valley Elder Collegium.
I have a long, fruitful association with the Northfield Arts Guild and continue to teach a weekly art workshop at the Northfield Retirement Center, open to its residents and to the wider community.
