GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR STUDIO

CLEANING AND USE

The Golden Rule for the studio is to leave everything as clean (or cleaner!) than the way you found it.

  • Sinks
    • Clean sinks and countertops after each class or session
  • Floors
    • Should be swept and spot mopped after each class
  • Potter’s Wheels
    • Clean each wheel after use (includes splash pan and bats)
  • Tools and Equipment
    • Clean each item after use and return it to its place (cabinet, wall, shelf, etc)
  • SlabRoller
    • Wipe down after each use
    • If canvases are very damp – lay them out to dry
  • Plaster Wedging Table
    • Cleaned after each use
    • DO NOT CUT CLAY WITH A SHARP OBJECT ON TABLE
  • Storage for Work and Personal Possessions
    • All students can leave clay, personal tools, containers, etc in the studio while they are taking classes, but the Arts Guild cannot guarantee the security of those items.
      • Younger school age students can store items in boxes on the kiln side
      • Adult students can store items on the shelves on the wheel side (1/2 shelf per person)
      • Everyone should clearly label their items, including type of clay and date bag was opened
      • All work should be picked up as soon as possible after firing and becomes property of the Arts Guild after 6 weeks (including unused clay)
  • Spray Booth
    • The spray booth needs to be cleaned after each use.
    • Rinse the glaze container and then fill it with water and spray until it runs clear.
    • Check oil levels in compressor regularly
  • Clay Recycling and Disposal
    • Clay to be recycled can be put in the large barrel on the wheel side of the room.
    • Other clays should be kept in a separate LABELED bucket
    • DO NOT THROW ANY CLAY IN THE TRASH CONTAINERS
      • Clay or pots that need to be thrown out can go in the dumpster behind the building
  • Lock the Door
    • If you are the last person out of the building after office hours make the sure the front door is locked
