Elaine Schaffner Artist Statement:
“The outdoors is an integral part of who I am. I aim to commemorate the beauty and serenity found in nature. I feel it is important to pause and appreciate our natural surroundings and remove ourselves from our manmade distractions. By putting these places and views on canvas, I allow them to be appreciated again and again.Nostalgia brings me back to the rural landscapes that I took for granted as a child growing up on the family farm in northeast Iowa. More and more, I am trekking out into nature with my plein air easel and oil paints to take on the challenge of painting outside and each time, I am humbled by the task of capturing the immenseness of our big, open spaces.”
