ANDY FLORY
Andrew Flory is a musicologist and musician from Northfield. He has played locally as a member of the Counterfactuals and leads the elusive trio Tower Soudan. When armed with a simple acoustic guitar or piano, Flory offers a quirky but direct take on indie, Americana and folk that lands somewhere near the intersection of Elliot Smith and John Denver. As an academic, he is an expert on the music of Motown and the author of the top-selling history of rock textbook in the U.S., and is currently writing a book about Marvin Gaye. He is well-versed in Gaye’s catalog, and has produced a number of historical reissues of material by the Motown legend. His day job is a professor post at Carleton College. Flory produces most of his own records and has also worked behind the desk for local groups like Sam Ryden and Matt Arthur and the Bratlanders.
Live from the Guild Theater is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts & cultural heritage fund.
During these challenging times, your support has tremendous impact! In celebration of this concert, please consider a donation to the Northfield Arts Guild.
