Free Lunch & Learn Opportunity: Climate Change & Nerstrand Big Woods Forest Death
Main Gallery, Northfield Arts Guild, 304 Division Street
Wednesday, June 26 11:30 am – 12:30 pm
The community is invited to this free event! Come learn about how Climate Change is affecting a favorite place for locals (and visitors) to hike, picnic, camp and explore. Neil Slifka, Area Resource Specialist | Parks and Trails, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MNDNR) will present his first-hand knowledge on the forest death happening in the Nerstrand Big Woods State Park:
- How the affected forest is changing.
- Some areas of forest are dying due to a changing climate.
- Rain is falling differently than in the past.
- Climate and soil define what type of forest can grow on a landscape.
- Ash trees tolerate wet soil and this has its own problems.
- Based on the data, what forest management actions the MNDNR is implementing.
After Neil presents, there will be time for audience questions. Guests are welcome to bring a bag lunch. Space is limited; please RSVP by June 25 to attend by emailing heather@northfieldartsguild.org or by calling 507-645-8877 x4.
This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts & cultural heritage fund.
