ATTENTION ODYSSEY FANS! The Society for Classical Studies has declared October Odyssey Month. To celebrate, the Northfield Arts Guild Literary Arts Committee, in collaboration with Carleton and St. Olaf Colleges, is sponsoring a Poetry and Flash Fiction Odyssey Response Competition. Poets and writers since the ancient world have composed their own takes on Homer’s epic. Examples from our own time include Cavafi’s Ithaka and Atwood’s Siren Song. For Odyssey Month, we are seeking new Odyssey-inspired poetry or flash fiction (500 words or less) from Northfield-area writers.
Please send your creation to Clara Hardy at chardy@carleton.edu as a Word or Google Doc by October 15. Please include your name and whether you are in the Youth (under 21) or Adult (21 and older) category. There will be a juried reading at the Northfield Arts Guild on Wednesday, October 28, and two winners (one from each category) will receive the translation of Homer’s Odyssey of their choice.
