This clay class is designed with everyone in mind beginner, intermediate, or advanced. The class introduces and/or continues to promote the fundamentals of wheel throwing and ceramic surface decoration to students despite their level of skill/knowledge. Students will learn or continue to practice essential pottery techniques, including centering clay, opening, pulling walls, and shaping basic forms such as cylinders, bowls, and plates. As skills develop, students will explore a variety of decorative methods to personalize their work, including carving, texture, slip application, underglaze painting, and glazing techniques.
Throughout the course, students will gain an understanding of the ceramic process from raw clay to finished piece, including proper studio practices, trimming, and finishing. Emphasis is placed on creativity, craftsmanship, and building confidence at the potter’s wheel. No prior experience is required, making this class an ideal class for all walks of clay.
