Topic for February 22: Writing an Effective Artist Statement
You asked for opportunities to grow as artists, and we listened!
Arts Guild Executive Director, Tim Peterson will lead a conversation focused on useful guidelines for writing an effective artist statement. In addition to his past arts administrative and curatorial positions, Peterson taught this subject for three years as part of a Fine Arts Professional Practice course at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design.
The conversation will cover:
- Conveying your overall artistic practice
- Describing your most current or in-process project(s)
- Avoiding jargon, empty phrases and common pitfalls
- Keeping it brief
During this conversation attendees are encouraged to ask questions and (optional) bring a sample artist statement to edit.
