We held a live, Virtual Artist Reception to celebrate the artists in the “I Know I’m Home When…” exhibition on Thursday, April 29 from 6:30-7:30 pm. Attendees were able to ask questions of the artists, and see a slideshow of artwork while hearing from participating artists.

Inspired by audio testimonies recorded by Cecilia Cornejo and her multiplatform project The Wandering House, the exhibition I Know I’m Home When… harnesses the power of community to interrogate notions of belonging through a variety of media.
At the heart of the I Know I’m Home When… exhibition is a Community Quilt comprised of quotes gleaned from audio testimonies recorded by Northfield residents in 2019 through The Wandering House project. All the quotes respond to the prompt “I Know I’m Home When…” and were carefully embroidered by 60 community members—embroidery artists and enthusiasts alike—working in close collaboration with Cecilia Cornejo. The participants in this project met periodically over Zoom to exchange embroidery tips, techniques, and ideas and in so doing, created a place of joy and connection at a time marked by isolation and uncertainty.
I Know I’m Home When… also includes the work of artists working in painting, photography, time-based media, artist books, ceramics, and prints. As a whole the show offers multiple points of entry for audiences to reflect and envision ways to create places where everyone feels heard, seen, and valued.
