“Nature: Seen and Unseen” features recent artwork by Anne Rynearson and Mary Welke.
The inspiration for Rynearson’s current series on canvas and paper is informed by her interests in natural processes and forms, as well as research into areas of cosmology, philosophy, mythical narratives, mysticism and symbolism in visual art. These concepts and image references share themes that involve shifting reality, altered states of perception and fantastic journeys or destinations.
Mary Welke’s mixed media paintings explore both the physicality and fragile nature of prairie renewal, farmland restoration, and soil health as she interprets these ideas into her latest art techniques. Her work has a playful and whimsical quality as she moves from delicate line work to heavily collaged prairie ash and organic matter embedded onto some of her pieces. Others, she simply burned with a torch.
Anne Rynearson and Mary Welke are each fiscal year 2020 recipients of an Artist Initiative grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation by the Minnesota State Legislature, and by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
In the “Paint a Portrait of Your Pet” exhibition Julie Fakler is displaying her example paintings from the Paint Your Pet classes she facilitates. For every class she teaches she creates an example painting, which generally takes her 15 to 20 minutes to complete. Julie teaches the pet portrait classes step-by-step, giving instruction for every step before the students start painting. Most of the class time is spent giving each student individual attention.
Julie will be offering a Paint Your Pet class at the Guild along with this exhibition on Saturday, Jan 30 from 1-3 pm. This class is open to youth and adults, and beginning painters are welcome!
Julie Fakler is a fiscal year 2021 recipient of a Creative Support for Individuals grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
