Twenty-one clay artists, many of whom exhibit nationally, will be showcasing their work this June during the Cannon River Clay Tour in Southeastern Minnesota. The free, self-guided studio tour will take place on Father’s Day weekend (June 18-19, 2016) and will consist of four stops located near the city of Northfield.

The tour is hosted by the Cannon Clay Cooperative, a group established in 2014 comprised of ten professional ceramicists from the Northfield area. Eleven guest potters from around the country will join them in the inaugural tour. The event includes functional potters, sculptors, and installation artists working in porcelain, stoneware, and terracotta. There will be a rich diversity of work represented: carved vessels, wood-fired and soda-fired pottery, sculpted animals, colorful and whimsical functional ware, botanically-inspired works, screen-printed pots, and pieces embellished with a myriad of patterns, natural scenes, and narratives.

In conjunction with the tour, the artists will be partnering with local food businesses, as well as organizing several clay workshops. More information on these partnerships and related events will be posted on the tour website this spring.

Participating artists include:

Members of the Cannon Clay Cooperative  Kelly Connole, Joel Froehle*, Chris & Sue Holmquist, James LaChance, Glynnis Lessing*, Kip O’Krongly*, Donovan Palmquist*, Colleen Riley*, Juliane Shibata*, and Barbara Zaveruha*
