Set in the early 1900s\, orphaned 11 year-old Mary Lennox returns from India to Yorkshire to live with her embittered\, reclusive uncle Archibald and his invalid son Colin. DESCRIPTION:THE WIZARD OF OZ IS SOLD OUT.   We welcome you to come an hour prior to performance time  to try for jumpseats (backless stools on the end of the rows) or for turned in tickets.\nFebruary 22 – March 3\, 2019\na Purple Door Youth Theater production \nby Rochelle Norbert\nJourney over the rainbow to a magical kingdom where four unlikely friends discover wisdom\, compassion\, courage\, and the way home. \nWhen a tornado rips through Kansas\, Dorothy and her dog\, Toto\, are whisked away in their house to the magical land of Oz. They follow the Yellow Brick Road toward the Emerald City to meet the Wizard\, and en route they meet a Scarecrow who needs a brain\, a Tinman who is missing a heart\, and a Cowardly Lion who wants courage. SUMMARY:Audition: Wizard of Oz
DESCRIPTION:The Wizard of Oz is our 2018-19 Journey Home theater season’s Purple Door Youth Theater production.\n  \nStudent auditions and technician interviews will be held on the evenings of December 10 and 12\, 2018.  Sign up for a 30 minute audition time. \n\n\n\n\nAudition Location:  Northfield Arts Guild Theater\, 411 Third Street W.\, Northfield \nAudition/Interview Preparation:  Those auditioning for acting roles should prepare one very short monologue from those listed at the bottom of the registration form.  Each mini-monologue is less than 30 seconds long. Those being interviewed for Dedicated Technician roles need not prepare anything in advance.  Tips for both actors and techies can be found on our Purple Door Youth Theater page. \n\nRehearsals begin January 7\, 2019.  The Wizard of Oz opens on The Guild stage on February 22\, 2019 and plays for two weekends through March 3\, 2019. \nStudents in grades 2 – 12 are involved with every aspect of producing a show from Performing\, to Designing and Building\, to Marketing and Ushering in a safe and supportive environment. Our Actors will be part of telling the story onstage\, and will be also involved in backstage training and work. Our Dedicated Technicians  are those who are interested in working with the essential “backstage” elements such as scenery\, lights\, costumes and sound.  Actors audition for roles. The show reveals relationships between men in Whitman’s era\, from Whitman’s utopian vision for male/male relations to the forces that sought to deny them.\nLeaves of Grass – Illuminated  reveals how we got here. I believe there would be no marriage equality in the US today if Whitman hadn’t first written Leaves of Grass in 1855. This show celebrates that\, making historical connections from the past to our present\, and provides sustenance for battles that still remain.  \nThere is a focus in this show on Whitman’s sexuality. It presents him as a complete human being\, as opposed to traditional approaches which erase his sexuality\, denying its importance to his life and to his poetry. The sexiness of her yesterdays has only recently begun to soften. He comes from a working family with a musical background\, though none have received formal training. His grandmother Lillian Uglem taught him the acoustic guitar while he was in grade school. \nHe has toured Japan\, Canada\, Portugal\, Iceland\, Australia; performed in bars\, backyards\, grand halls\, subways\, theaters\, old folks homes; exchanged songs and poetry with many talented folks\, including Susan Orlean\, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott\, Patrick Marber\, Bonnie Raitt and the late Sam Hinton. \nMayor Mike Brown presented Brosseau the Key to the City of Grand Forks\, North Dakota in 2007 for his album of original work entitled Grand Forks. The songs were based on the devastating Red River flood of 1997. Natalie Portman chose a track from Grand Forks\,”Plaid-lined Jacket” as part of her continuing work with FINCA\, an organization whose mission is to assist communities of impoverishment. \nSince 2010\, Brosseau has performed with Becky Stark and John C. Reilly in John Reilly & Friends\, a band devoted to the current American folk music revival\, whose members also include Dan Bern\, Willie Watson\, Greg Leisz\, Jerry Roe and Sebastian Steinberg. Stay safe and warm.\n\n\nReading of a new play by Christine Kallman \nWomen March on Washington is a full-length stage play based on the women’s marches on Washington of 1913\, 1978 and 2017\, using historical and fictional characters. Bags packed\, they head out across the country (and over decades) to the nation’s center of power. What will they bring? White gloves and a Bible? Heavy boots and the Pill? A pink hat? A hijab? The diverse travelers encounter suffragist Alice Paul\, early civil rights leader Ida Wells-Barnett\, 1970’s ERA proponents (and opponents)\, and women of today. Battling enormous obstacles\, including their own doubts and disagreements\, all arrive in Washington together\, asking: “Whose march is it?” and “What are the stakes?” \nWomen March on Washington is a new play in development and will be presented script-in-hand.
