SUMMARY:CVRO: 40th Anniversary Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate with us! The original Cannon Valley Regional Orchestra 40th Anniversary celebration concert had to be postponed due to the pandemic and has now been rescheduled for this November. \nThe concert will feature the premier performance of the Minnesota Suite\, a piece by Northfield composer Reinaldo Moya. Made possible by a grant from the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council\, the work was inspired by the landscape and geography of the state of Minnesota. Also featured on the concert program is the Sibelius Violin Concerto\, which will be performed by Francesca Anderegg\, Associate Professor of Violin at St. Olaf. \nThe concert will be performed twice– On Saturday\, Nov. 6 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Northfield\, and on Sunday\, Nov. 7 at the Cathedral of Our Merciful Savior in Faribault. If you do not feel well\, we ask that you please stay home and rest. \nThe Guild will have hand sanitizer available at the event. Our building (including restrooms) will not be accessible to the public during this event so please plan accordingly. DESCRIPTION:Originally scheduled to play at the Guild Theater\, this 411 Concert Series performance has been re-imagined as Katy Vernon #LiveFromHome. Follow along on Facebook as Katy Vernon shares an intimate evening of songs and stories with audiences near and far. Vernon has opened for the 411 Concert Series in the past and now takes the virtual stage headlining a solo evening of music special for Northfield audiences. \n\nViewers can access Katy Vernon #LiveFromHome free of charge\, but are encouraged to make a donation of any amount via a donation link on the Guild’s website. All donations are 100% tax deductible and will help sustain the Guild during these challenging times\, while also supporting our continuing online arts engagement. \n\nKaty was born and raised in London\, UK but in the past dozen or so years has established herself as one of the busiest musicians in Minnesota\, combining melodic pop/folk songwriting with her twangy Americana band. She has appeared at festivals in the Midwest and UK such as the Ukulele Festival of Great Britain\, The Grand Northern Ukulele Festival\, Taste of Minnesota\, Stars of the North\, Big Turn Fest\, and Hazelfest. Her newest record\, Suit of Hearts\, was just named as a top ten record of the year by the Star Tribune.

SUMMARY:We Are the Willows: Free Music Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Come join the musicians of We Are the Willows\, a 6-piece orchestral rock band out of Minneapolis\, to discuss the creation of their album PICTURE (PORTRAIT)\, based off of 350 letters sent between lead singer/songwriter Peter Miller’s grandparents during World War II. Their correspondence inspired Peter to explore themes of family\, separation\, life\, death\, and identity in a time of national and personal crisis. The songs communicate complex ideas delivered with pop-sensible charm. This workshop is free! Participants will explore their own family histories and discuss processes\, develop creative habits and practices\, and explore songwriting and storytelling together.\n\nRead more about the band at www.wearethewillows.com.

SUMMARY:Members' Show artwork drop-off
DESCRIPTION:The Northfield Arts Guild invites you to participate in our annual “Members‘ Exhibition”\nSept 4 – 19\, 2015!\n\n\n\n\nOne of the benefits of membership at the Northfield Arts Guild is the opportunity for members to exhibit their original artwork in the Annual Members‘ Exhibition. This year’s Members‘ Exhibition takes place from September 4-19\, 2015. We invite adult members to submit up to three unique pieces of their own work (or one piece if it is over 36″ in any dimension) to be included in this show. This invitation is only open to current adult members of the Guild. All are invited to join or renew their membership at the time of their submission.\n\nDEADLINES:\nInventory: A digital inventory of work to be submitted is to be emailed to heather@northfieldartsguild.org no later than Tuesday\, August 11th\, 2015. \n\nArtwork drop off: All work should be brought to the Northfield Arts Guild gallery on Tuesday\, September 1\, 2015 between 12 and 6 pm. In addition\, each piece must be ready to display: 2D works need to be framed and wired\, and hanging textiles must be configured with the appropriate hardware. No work can be accepted after September 1. If this is an inconvenient date for you\, please have someone else deliver the work\, or call the office to make arrangements to bring your work before this date.\nAny artwork submitted must include the title\, media\, size\, date\, and retail sale price (including the 40% gallery commission). Work that is not ready to display or is exceptionally fragile will be excluded from the show; please submit the work accordingly\n\nThe Artists’ Reception will be Friday\, September 18th from 7 – 9 pm and light refreshments will be served. In addition to celebrating the Artists this evening\, we will also celebrate all members of the Arts Guild at the annual member meeting\, taking place from 6 -7 pm. Many visitors make their way to downtown Northfield during this time of year for the beginning of college school year\, and the Defeat of Jesse James Days.
