DESCRIPTION:SEE THIS SHOW IN NORTHFIELD BEFORE IT PLAYS AT THE GUTHRIE (next summer). \nThe capstone event for Northfield Poetry Festival. \nAdmission is free for this first-come-first-serve non-ticketed event.\nA free will offering will be accepted. \nLeaves of Grass – Illuminated has received rave reviews in Minneapolis and New York City:\n“Both Whitman and Scully are major figures; they contain multitudes.” (Village Voice)\n“Scully is the perfect caretaker for Whitman’s legacy.” (StarTribune)\n“Patrick Scully was born to play Walt Whitman.” (Lavender Magazine)\n\n\n“Leaves of Grass – Illuminated is about history\, art\, and literature – presenting aspects of Walt Whitman’s life and work that are fascinating for our time\, in which discussions of male/male relations have moved out of the shadows into the light of day. The show reveals relationships between men in Whitman’s era\, from Whitman’s utopian vision for male/male relations to the forces that sought to deny them.\nLeaves of Grass – Illuminated  reveals how we got here. I believe there would be no marriage equality in the US today if Whitman hadn’t first written Leaves of Grass in 1855. This show celebrates that\, making historical connections from the past to our present\, and provides sustenance for battles that still remain.  \nThere is a focus in this show on Whitman’s sexuality. It presents him as a complete human being\, as opposed to traditional approaches which erase his sexuality\, denying its importance to his life and to his poetry. DESCRIPTION:The Northfield Arts Guild is committed to building a creative and dynamic theater that celebrates individual differences and treats everyone with fairness and respect. The Guild encourages all – beginners or established artists – to audition for roles and to volunteer for technical positions. \n  \nA Christmas Story  by Philip Grecian.\nA play based on the movie A Christmas Story: written by Jean Shepherd\, Leigh Brown and Bob Clark\n  \nAudition Dates and times: Monday\, Oct 1st and Tuesday\, Oct 2nd beginning at 6:30 PM.\nCallbacks will be held on Wednesday\, Oct 3rd for those called. \nSign up for a 30 minute slot.  You’ll be assigned a 5 minute audition time within that slot. \n\n\n\n\nAudition Location: Northfield Arts Guild Theater\, 411 Third Street W\, Northfield\, MN \n\nAudition Requirements:  Please prepare one minute comedic monologue.  Also\, bring along to the auditions a calendar of any rehearsal conflict dates/times.\n\nRehearsal information: Rehearsals will begin Monday\, Oct. 8th.  Rehearsals are generally held 6:30-9:00 PM\, Monday through Thursday. Ralphie pleads his case to his mother\, his teacher and Santa Claus himself at Goldblatt’s Department Store. SUMMARY:We Are the Willows: Free Music Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Come join the musicians of We Are the Willows\, a 6-piece orchestral rock band out of Minneapolis\, to discuss the creation of their album PICTURE (PORTRAIT)\, based off of 350 letters sent between lead singer/songwriter Peter Miller’s grandparents during World War II. Their correspondence inspired Peter to explore themes of family\, separation\, life\, death\, and identity in a time of national and personal crisis. The songs communicate complex ideas delivered with pop-sensible charm.
