This year’s Members‘ Exhibition takes place from September 4-19\, 2015. We invite adult members to submit up to three unique pieces of their own work (or one piece if it is over 36″ in any dimension) to be included in this show. This invitation is only open to current adult members of the Guild. All are invited to join or renew their membership at the time of their submission.\n\nDEADLINES:\nInventory: A digital inventory of work to be submitted is to be emailed to heather@northfieldartsguild.org no later than Tuesday\, August 11th\, 2015. \n\nArtwork drop off: All work should be brought to the Northfield Arts Guild gallery on Tuesday\, September 1\, 2015 between 12 and 6 pm. SUMMARY:Gallery Reception for "Current Art Teachers...Current Artists"
DESCRIPTION:Join and meet the teachers for a celebration of their work. Light refreshments will be served. \nStudents\, past and present\, will enjoy seeing the artwork of their teachers!  In addition to inspiring young people as current K-12 Art Educators in Northfield Schools\, the participants in this exhibition are active professional artists. These colleagues often interact in their professional capacity as art teachers\, but this exhibition has given them the platform to showcase the work they create outside of the classroom.  Many of these artists have shown their work independently\, but this exhibition represents the first time that this group of artists have displayed collectively. The hope is that this will be the start of a biannual showing of artwork by a group of art educators. \nFEATURING THE WORK OF NORTHFIELD K-12 ART TEACHERS:\nJohn Bade\, Angie Ekern\, Rafa Estrella\, Karna Hauck\, Chris Holmquist\, Erica Ness\, Katherine Norrie\, Vicki Stanley\, Sarah Wallis & Kate Woodstrup \nCeramics\, Prints\, Drawings\, and Paintings\n \nExhibit runs through August 29. \nExhibit Sponsor:

SUMMARY:Lunch & Learn: Papercutter Alice Masek
DESCRIPTION:Alice Helen Masek will share photos of her large scale papaercut works with a focus on the many different ways she did research to inform her images and details. Photos\, stories shared\, questions and answers will take about 45 minutes during which participants will have the option to experience cutting smaller scale pieces from her designs. \nLater that evening\, Masek will hold an in-depth\, hands-on papercutting workshop at the Northfield United Methodist Church from 6:30-8:30 pm. No experience is necessary. Participants will try their hand at making a paper-cut butterfly (approximately 7 inches by 10 inches). Examples of the papercut butterflies participants will create are on display at the Church through June 29th.  Participants are strongly encouraged to make a $5 donation to the Church to offset the cost of materials. \nAlice Helen Masek\,  M.A. in Spirituality from Pacific School of Religion 1995\, is based in Castro Valley\, California\, (San Francisco East Bay area) from which she has travelled seventeen years for a nationwide ecumenical ministry of group-cut large scale papercuttings with churches\, religious orders\, and social service organizations. Through her membership in the Guild of American Papercutters\, she was invited to the Second International Festival of the Art of Papercutting in Huhhot\, Inner Mongolia (a province of People’s Republic of China) in August of 2006\, and her large art travelled with the Festival exhibit to cities in China\, Taiwan\, and Europe. She has created over 200 large designs which have homes from Hawaii to Eastern USA\, and from as far north as Kotzebue\, Alaska to as far south as Cuernavaca Mexico.   Most recently (2015) she has offered a cutting session at University of California Santa Cruz and will do so again in August\, with an exhibit of her work there in 2016.

SUMMARY:Jill Ewald Exhibit Closes
DESCRIPTION:Fiber Art \nApril 13-May 31 \nSince the mid-1990s\, I have explored ways to visualize interior and exterior human connections though painting and drawing. Stylistically\, my work is as abstract as the concepts addressed by it.  Recently I began to enlist a variety of materials including ink and thread on raw canvas as a means to explore movement in time and space. My investigation of these concepts includes creating trails through landscapes\, waterways\, and mindscapes. \n–Jill Ewald \nJill Ewald received the M.F.A. in visual arts from The Vermont College\, Montpelier\, Vermont\, and a B.A. from St. Olaf College\, Northfield\, Minnesota. She was an art apprentice at St. Olaf for the year following graduation. From 1998 through 2013\, she served as director of the Flaten Art Museum at St. Olaf College\, where she has also taught visual art classes. She served on the artist panel of the Minnesota Artist Exhibition Program at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. She has received awards and grants from shows\, the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council and the State Arts Board. Her work has been exhibited frequently in the Midwest at venues such as the Rochester Art Center\, Rochester\, MN\, Minneapolis Institute of Arts\, Circa Gallery\, Minneapolis\, the Duluth Art Institute\, Duluth\, MN\, and the Plains Arts Museum\, Fargo\, North Dakota. Her work was also included in the American Drawing Biennial at the Muscarelle Museum of Art in Williamsburg\, VA\, and the Westmorland Art Nationals in Youngblood\, PA. Ewald’s work is also found in several public and private collections around the U.S. and in Norway and Canada. She lives with her husband Ken and works in Northfield\, Minnesota. She is a member of the Northfield Arts Guild.

This grand finale concert will feature French-born\, Brooklyn-based Stephane Wrembel who is known internationally as one of the most daring and virtuosic guitarists of our time.  Rolling Stone Magazine has called him “a revelation”. Woody Allen recruited him to score the theme for the smash film “Midnight in Paris”\, and he performed the irresistibly catchy original song\, “Bistro Fada”\, live during the 2012 Academy Awards. He has headlined at Lincoln Center\, played major festivals\, recorded with mandolin legend David Grisman\, toured with master violinist Mark O’Connor and shared stages with everyone from Elvis Costello to Patti Smith to The Roots. The Gitane guitar company has even named a model after him. To say that Stephane Wrembel— who learned his craft among the Gypsies at campsites in the French countryside— has already had a remarkable career would be an under-statement. This virtuoso guitarist has truly just begun to make his mark as one of the most original guitar voices in contemporary music. \n\nIn addition to showcasing Wrembel’s mastery of the gypsy jazz tradition\, the May 21st concert will highlight his latest original release\, Dreamers of Dreams. In this new album\, one can hear the echoes of his influences from Django Reinhardt to Pink Floyd. Wrembel harmoniously blends all his mastered techniques into one powerful\, impressionist masterpiece that is Dreamers of Dreams. \nFor further information on the Northfield Gypsy Jazz Jam Series\, visit www.marthalarson.com. \nTickets: $15 in advance\n$20 at the door
