DESCRIPTION:Join photography and architecture enthusiasts for an evening stroll around downtown Northfield! This event is hosted by Preservation Alliance of Minnesota and Northfield Arts Guild.Beginning and ending at the Northfield Arts Guild\, the Mobile Photography Tour is an unforgettable way to experience this beautiful downtown on the banks of the Cannon River. \nWe’ll begin with a mobile photography lesson from Eric Mueller. Eric will share tips for maximizing your phone to take amazing pictures on this tour and future excursions. \nEric is a Minneapolis-based artist\, photographer\, and teacher. Known for his graphic style and strength in composition\, his photographs have been exhibited in dozens of group shows. He teaches iPhone Photography classes online for iPhonePhotographySchool.com and locally for FilmNorth (formerly IFP Minnesota)\, the Minnetonka Center for the Arts\, and the Preservation Alliance of Minnesota. He has about 50\,000 followers on Instagram. \nThen\, we’ll explore downtown with Barbara Evans\, a Northfield resident\, teacher\, and old home owner & restorer. Barbara taught in Rochester\, MN for 34 years before retiring and moving to Northfield. Barbara’s interests include architecture\, travel\, photography\, and renovation of her Arts & Crafts home in Northfield. She sits on the Northfield Heritage Preservation Commission and enjoys learning about Northfield’s historic buildings and homes. Barbara also has a small greeting card company that features her photography: Cannon Shots. \nYou are invited to explore the Northfield Arts Guild’s exhibits before the tour. These colleagues often interact in their professional capacity as art teachers\, but this exhibition gives them the platform to showcase the work they create outside of the classroom. \nMany of these artists have shown their work independently; this exhibition represents the second time that this particular group of artists has displayed collectively. The intent is that this will exhibition of artwork by a group of current area art educators will happen every three years.  Visitors to the exhibition will experience ceramics\, prints\, drawings\, paintings and mixed media. \n  \nCollective Artist Statement:\nAs art teachers\, we are GIVERS. We give of our time\, our energy\, our compassion and our ideas. We are also CREATORS. We value time in the studio considering our own thoughts and passions\, and how we want to communicate these ideas through the visual language. The creative process fills our cups\, just as we see it fill the cups of many young people on a daily basis. \nOur lives are woven together through this show and the many ways that we have the privilege to interact because of our rich history of experience together growing creativity in young people. It is a privilege and an honor for us to do this life work in the classroom and to share this work that we do beyond the classroom with you. Audiences will experience a series of interlaced performances of theater\, dance\, visual installations\, and digital media taking place at several locations throughout Northfield. This performance event is inspired by the history\, architecture\, and unique community of Northfield. Koplowitz is collaborating with St. Olaf and Carleton Colleges and the greater Northfield community where the spirit of history\, industry\, and scholarship thrive and will engage students\, alumni\, and professors from both colleges\, in addition to members of specific Northfield institutions and businesses. The Northfield Experience will be a unique\, one of a kind performance event and experience\, not to be missed! \nThis is a progressive venue production. It aims not only to create a unique artistic experience\, but to bring together several academic and public communities united towards the development and creation of this work. DESCRIPTION:The Northfield (Exhibition) Experience\n  \nPlease join us to learn more about the work and meet the artists at the Opening Reception on Friday\, April 20 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm with remarks from the Artistic Director of The Northfield Experience\, Stephan Koplowitz at 7:30 pm.\nThe Guild presents The Northfield (Exhibition) Experience which has been specifically curated in conjunction with The Northfield Experience\, April 18 through May 12\, 2018\, in the Main Gallery of the Center for the Arts\,304 Division Street South\, Northfield.  This exhibition includes paintings\, photographs\, textiles\, collage and ceramics commissioned from nearly 30 area artists. \nThis exhibition is particularly unique in that it features work generated by each artist’s conceptual vision around an arts event before the event occurs. This exhibition will give viewers a unique entry point into the seven sites being animated as part of The Northfield Experience. This event is a promenade performance in which the audience will take part in a progressive walking tour that begins at The Grand Event Center\, Friday-Sunday\, May 4 – 6\, 2018.  The Northfield (Exhibition) Experience  offers its own visual journey of both the project and of the city of Northfield. DESCRIPTION:    \nJoin us at our annual Imagination Celebration event! \nImagination Celebration is a free day of art and performances on Saturday\, April 7\, 2018 from 10 am- 2 pm. This family-friendly event features the All-School Show in our Main Gallery\, mini performances\, demonstrations\, and hands-on art activities in our Art Studio\, Clay Studio\, and Dance Studio. \nThis celebration of all things great about art is a popular\, long-running event drawing hundreds of people to the Northfield Arts Guild’s Center for the Arts.  Imagination Celebration will showcase Bridging Creativity: Northfield Area All-School Art Show\, an exhibition of colorful 2D and 3D artwork created by K-12 students from Northfield Area schools. Though this exhibition runs March 21 through April 14\, and during Imagination Celebration\, local art teachers will be present to guide visitors through and answer questions regarding the show. \nThis exhibition features student work from Arcadia Charter School\, Area Learning Center\, Bridgewater Elementary School\, Greenvale Park Community School\, Northfield Area Homeschool Classes\, Northfield High School\, Northfield Middle School\, Prairie Creek Community School\, Sibley Elementary School\, and St. Dominic Catholic School. \nIn addition to the Main Gallery exhibition\, The Up Gallery in the Center for the Arts features the art exhibit: We Are Your Neighbors a photo exhibition by local Latino youth sharing their lives with our community. \nImagination Celebration is a full day of community celebration of the arts and will take place at the Northfield Arts Guild’s Center for the Arts\, 304 Division Street South\, Northfield. DESCRIPTION:Topic for March 22: How To Price Your Artwork\nYou asked for opportunities to grow as artists\, and we listened! Pricing work is an area where many artists tell us they struggle\, and we’re here to help!  A panel of experts: Colleen Riley (Ceramic artist)\, Mary Closner (Art gallery owner & writer) and David Lefkowitz (Painting\, installation\, mixed media artist and Carleton Associate Professor of Art) will lead a conversation focused around how to price artwork. During this conversation attendees are encouraged to ask questions and share their tips and experiences. \nInterested in attending? Space is limited\, please reserve your seat by emailing heather@northfieldartsguild.org or calling (507) 645-8877. \n  \nJoin us for our monthly Artist Conversations!  This is a time (every 4th Thursday from 6-8 pm) for emerging and professional artists to gather in a small group setting to discuss topics relevant to visual artists.  These gatherings are free and open to the public. \nEach conversation will focus on one topic such as: \n\nHow to regularly show your work\nHow to create a cohesive body of work\nSocial Media for artists\nBookkeeping for artists\nWebsites for artists\n\nHave a topic to suggest? Please email your idea to heather@northfieldartsguild.org
