SUMMARY:Lysistrata
DESCRIPTION:by Aristophanes \nPart of our 2017-18 Striking Conversations Theater Season\nThe original burlesque comedy about\njust wanting to live in peace!\nA hit since 411 B.C.\, this social spoof offers a surprisingly contemporary take on anti-war sentiment and the creative spirit. The comedy glorifies the power of women in the face of battle\, and playwright Nicholas Rudall’s new translation captures the splendid variety of Aristophanes’ astute theatricality and poetic wit. \nAthens and Sparta have been at war for years with no end in sight. Peace-loving Lysistrata has a solution – she unites the women of both city-states to withhold sexual relations to encourage their soldiers to come to their senses. Putting the plan into action\, however\, proves more difficult and hilarious than anyone imagined.  This production contains mature comedic content and language. \nNicholas Rudall says of the play\, “What the women are saying is\, ‘We will produce no more children for men to use as the fodder of war.’  This is a play about fertility and survival\, rather than sex\, frustration\, and gratification.” \nBe prepared to laugh! Without apology\, this production contains zestfully mature comedic content and language.\nPerformances:\nFriday\, June 22\, 2018 at 7:30pm (Opening Night Reception)\nSaturday\, June 23\, 2018 at 7:30pm\nSunday\, June 24\, 2018 at 7:30pm (Pre-show Discussion at 7:00)\nThursday\, June 28\, 2018 at 7:30pm\nFriday\, June 29\, 2018 at 7:30pm* \nSaturday\, June 30\, 2018 at 7:30pm \n\nThe Guild is offering ASL translation for the June 29th performance with advance notice to the office no later June 8th:  507-645-8877 or theater@northfieldartsguild.org\n\nVenue:  Northfield Arts Guild Theater\, 411 Third Street W\, Northfield\n(The show was previously slated for Central Park\, but all performances have been moved to the theater.)

SUMMARY:Auditions: Women March
DESCRIPTION:Production:  Women March on Washington by Christine Kallman \nDirector/Playwright: Christine Kallman \nAudition Dates and times:  Saturday\, February 10 or Sunday\,  February 11\,  4-6 p.m. \nAudition Location: Northfield Arts Guild Downtown \, 304 Division St. \nAudition Requirements:  Actors need not prepare anything in advance. You will be asked to read from the script\, by yourself or with other actors. Some of the roles call for singing (solo and/or ensemble). If you like\, you can prepare a very short song (1 minute or less)\, or the director will provide an easy song for you to sing.  Scripts available for 24 hr perusal at The Guild office or available online here. \nSummary of the Show: Women March on Washington is a full-length stage play based on the Women’s marches on Washington of 1913\, 1978 and 2017\, using historical and fictional characters. Bags packed\, they head out across the country (and over decades) to the nation’s center of power. What will they bring? White gloves and a Bible? Heavy boots and the Pill? A pink hat? A hijab? The diverse travelers encounter suffragist Alice Paul\, early civil rights leader Ida Wells-Barnett\, 1970’s ERA proponents (and opponents)\, and women of today. Battling enormous obstacles\, including their own doubts and disagreements\, all arrive in Washington together\, asking: “Whose march is it?” and “What are the stakes?” \nWomen March on Washington is a new play in development and will be presented script-in-hand. The rehearsal and reading of the script are invaluable parts in the process of the script revision and development. \n  This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts & cultural heritage fund. \nRehearsal information:  Rehearsals are scheduled to begin Monday April 2. \nPerformance dates\, times\, location: \n\nSaturday\, April 14 Performance #1\, 7:30 p.m.  Northfield Arts Guild Theater\, 411 Third Street W.\, Northfield\nSunday\, April 15  Performance #2\, 2:00 p.m. Northfield Arts Guild Theater\, 411 Third Street W.\, Northfield\n\nCharacter descriptions and able-to-play ages:  Auditions are open to age 16 and older\, female and gender non-conforming persons.
