SUMMARY:411 Concert: Communist Daughter with opener Chad Johnson
DESCRIPTION:The 411 Concert Series features acoustic performances by regional and national musicians. Each show opens with a local musician!\nA few years ago John Solomon walked away from music. After a long struggle with addiction and a brief stint in jail he broke up his critically acclaimed band Friends Like These and moved to a small town. Supposedly that was that… \nEven though Solomon left music\, music never left him. After a long hiatus\, he called some friends to come out to that small town and begin again.\nFind out more about  Communist Daughter\n \n  \nQuotes about Communist Daughter: \n“Songs that capture the old joy of classic records and do-nothing days\, and the ache of knowing they’re mostly gone. Yes\, there’s a good kind of sadness\, and this is what it sounds like.” -M Maerz\, Rolling Stone \n \n2015-16 411 Concert Series sponsored by: \n \nBeverage sponsors:  \nLodging sponsor:  \nMedia Sponsor:

SUMMARY:CVRO Concert "Vienna to Leipzig"
DESCRIPTION:Vienna to Leipzig: A Musical Journey\nMendelssohn Violin Concerto\, Beethoven’s Egmont Overture & Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony\nwith Philip Stoltzfus\, violin\nSt. John’s Hall\, Northfield\nTime: 3:00 pm\nAdvanced ticket sales have ended\, but tickets will be available at the door! \nPhilip Stoltzfus will then be the featured soloist in Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto. A long-time CVRO member and resident of Northfield\, Stoltzfus teaches at the University of St. Thomas and United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities. He is a graduate of one of the first Suzuki programs in the country\, the Preucil School of Music in Iowa City\, IA. The Mendelssohn Violin Concerto stands as a major work in the violin repertoire and an orchestral mainstay of the early Romantic era. \nThe orchestra will conclude with Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony\, premiered in Vienna after his death\, and\, for a finale\, his “March Militaire.” Schubert is popular not only among listeners but also among musicians\, for his very engaging compositional style.  All works for this concert were written in the early 1800s\, at the dawn of the “Romantic” era of music. \nBoth performances are open to the public and newcomers are always welcome! Patrons are encouraged to support the orchestra through suggested admission of $15 for adults\, $10 for students and seniors\, and nobody will turned away because of an inability to pay. Tickets may be reserved by calling the Northfield Arts Guild at 507-645-8877 or online at www.cvrorchestra.org. \nSince 1979\, the Cannon Valley Regional Orchestra has drawn players from a wide area\, including Northfield\, New Prague\, Red Wing and Faribault. The performers are dedicated amateurs of all ages whose love for orchestral music encourages them to perform to high levels of artistic excellence. \nSeason Sponsor: \n \nMedia Sponsor:

SUMMARY:CVRO Concert "Vienna to Leipzig"
DESCRIPTION:Vienna to Leipzig: A Musical Journey\nMendelssohn Violin Concerto\, Beethoven’s Egmont Overture & Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony\nwith Philip Stoltzfus\, violin\nDivine Mercy Catholic Church\, Faribault\nTime: 7:30 pm\nAdvanced ticket sales have ended\, but tickets will be available at the door!

SUMMARY:Gypsy Jazz Jam Series Grand Finale Concert
DESCRIPTION:Featuring Stephane Wrembel and his Band\n\nJoin us for a very special evening\, celebrating a culmination of the third annual Northfield Gypsy Jazz Jam Series\, proudly supported by the Northfield Arts Guild. This grand finale concert will feature French-born\, Brooklyn-based Stephane Wrembel who is known internationally as one of the most daring and virtuosic guitarists of our time.  Rolling Stone Magazine has called him “a revelation”. Woody Allen recruited him to score the theme for the smash film “Midnight in Paris”\, and he performed the irresistibly catchy original song\, “Bistro Fada”\, live during the 2012 Academy Awards. He has headlined at Lincoln Center\, played major festivals\, recorded with mandolin legend David Grisman\, toured with master violinist Mark O’Connor and shared stages with everyone from Elvis Costello to Patti Smith to The Roots. The Gitane guitar company has even named a model after him. To say that Stephane Wrembel— who learned his craft among the Gypsies at campsites in the French countryside— has already had a remarkable career would be an under-statement. This virtuoso guitarist has truly just begun to make his mark as one of the most original guitar voices in contemporary music. \n\nIn addition to showcasing Wrembel’s mastery of the gypsy jazz tradition\, the May 21st concert will highlight his latest original release\, Dreamers of Dreams. In this new album\, one can hear the echoes of his influences from Django Reinhardt to Pink Floyd. Wrembel harmoniously blends all his mastered techniques into one powerful\, impressionist masterpiece that is Dreamers of Dreams. \nFor further information on the Northfield Gypsy Jazz Jam Series\, visit www.marthalarson.com. \nTickets: $15 in advance\n$20 at the door
