Dance and Performing Arts Classes for Adults

Dance Ability

You will be able to take this class from a wheelchair or chair, with a walker, holding onto a ballet barre or standing, depending on your needs. Choose your level of movement. This class is not limited by age or ability. Register through Northfield Dance Academy.

Mondays and Wednesdays, 1:30-2:15 pm beginning May 14.

Teen/Adult Korean Sword Dance

Beautiful and powerful, Korean style sword dancing is a creative alternative to traditional dance, exercise, or martial arts classes. You’ll  develop strength, grace, and confidence, while putting together a group dance to perform at the Guild Spring Dance Concert. There is a $20 fee for the practice sword payable to the instructor at the first class. Wear clothes that are  comfortable to move in. Ages 12+.

Dance Sampler Series

Join the Northfield Arts Guild and Northfield Senior Center for a fun new dance sampler series! The sampler series kicked off with Folk Dancing and Square Dancing, and continues with Chair Tap and Regency Dance.

Chair Tap

NEW CLASS! Tap your way through this sampler without even getting on your feet! Chair tap is a creative and interesting way to explore the joy of tap dancing. You’ll learn tap techniques and steps all while remaining seated! Some tap shoes are available to borrow or you may bring your own. Ask about shoes when you register! Register through the Guild.

Regency Dance

NEW CLASS! Travel through time to the era of Regency Dance and the novels of Jane Austen! You will focus on dances that were popular at the turn of the 19th century, as well as earlier dances that are featured in the modern film and television adaptations of 19th-century novels by Ms. Austen and Mr. Dickens. No partners or costumes are required; dance shoes or indoor athletic shoes are recommended. Register through the Northfield Senior Center.

Beginning Ballroom and Latin

Come learn Ballroom and Latin dance in a fun, supportive environment! This class is great for newcomers and those looking to practice their skills in social dancing. Feel free to bring a dance partner or come on your own. No experience needed. Cost is per person. Ages 14 and up.

Teen/Adult Ballet

Teen/Adult Ballet, an advanced beginning class, will help you further your skills and understanding of ballet technique. You will focus on strength, alignment and stamina while building kinesthetic awareness through embodiment work. Ages 13+.

The Art of Juggling

NEW CLASS! Welcome to the art and practice of juggling! In this class, you’ll learn about the history of juggling and its greatest stars while working on your own skills. You’ll begin with three balls, then begin to add tricks at your own pace. Included in the class fee are three juggling balls for you to keep so you can work in between class times and keep juggling well after the class has ended. All levels and beginners welcome. Ages 14+.

Flamenco Dance Technique & Repertoire

NEW CLASS! Flamenco is a culture and an art form from the southern Spanish region of Andalusia. Flamenco consists of three components: live singing, guitar playing, and dancing. A performance is often improvised by the musician and dancer communicating through their music and dance. In this unique specialty class, you’ll focus on building dance repertoire using basic dance techniques. While learning the dance, you’ll also have the opportunity to learn the cultural background and basic structure of cante (Flamenco singing) which are the the foundation of the dance.
