Celebrating Myrna Johnson

While we mourn the passing of Myrna Johnson, we want to share the resolution that designated August 20, 2019 as Myrna Johnson Day in Northfield.

CITY OF NORTHFIELD, MINNESOTA
CITY COUNCIL RESOLUTION 2019
RECOGNIZING THE NORTHFIELD ARTS GUILD’S 60th ANNIVERSARY BY PROCLAIMING AUGUST 20, 2019 MYRNA JOHNSON DAY

WHEREAS, a visionary group of artists and patrons resolved in 1959 to create a gathering space for the arts where everyone is welcomed and included; and

WHEREAS, on August 20, 1959 the Northfield Arts Guild presented its inaugural performance of Ah, Wilderness and

WHEREAS, Myrna Johnson’s contributions were integral in founding the Guild and guiding it through its pivotal early years; and

WHEREAS, there are many people whose contributions helped launch, shape and build the North field Arts Guild over the past six decades, but Myrna Johnson’s leadership is universally recognized, acknowledged and celebrated; and

WHEREAS, thousands of local citizens of all ages rely on the Northfield Arts Guild for access to arts programming in theater, music, visual arts, arts education.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL THAT:
The Northfield City Council recognizes and congratulates Myrna Johnson and the Northfield Arts Guild for 60 years in business in the Northfield community and proclaims August 20, 2019 as Myrna Johnson Day in Northfield.
