OCTOBER 1 – OCTOBER 30, 2021

A new group of paintings by Tom Maakestad is paired with early works by his late father, John Maakestad, a painter and college educator from Northfield, MN. In this project Tom has reflected on some of his father’s earliest works from 1955 to 1972 and has curated a group of pieces by his father. His father’s studio was partially cleaned and stacks of drawings were saved from further deterioration. In some cases works had to be restored and remounted. In the process new graphics were discovered and will be shown in this exhibition.  Also on view are some of John’s earliest oil paintings which were made upon moving to Valley Grove, south of Northfield, on to the family farm.

This exhibition is supported by a Minnesota State Arts Board Creative Support Grant.
