Since mid-March of 2020, Guild staff, artists, instructors, board members, and supporters have worked to re-imagine and adapt our programming to best serve our community while we are unable to physically gather. Here are activities to do from home, resources for artists, and ways to help support the Guild. We will keep this page updated as we continue to add more to our online offerings, as well as highlight important updates on our News page.
Things to do
Live From the Guild Theater is a series of 30-minute live monthly concerts streamed to you from the Guild Theater between January and May, 2021. This concert series, organized by Ray Coudret, in collaboration with Guild staff, provides a platform for accomplished area musicians to share their music with their community. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts & cultural heritage fund.
APRIL CONCERT Tune into the Guild’s Facebook page at 7:30 pm on Saturday, April 10 to experience the consummate troubadour, Jon Manners!
411 Concert Series: The final concert of the 2019-20 411 Concert Series was originally scheduled to take place at the Guild Theater on May 2. Katy Vernon hosted a virtual concert for the Guild called Katy Vernon #LiveFromHome. This intimate concert full of delightful music and heartfelt stories can be watched on the Guild’s Facebook page.
The Guild hosted an online monologue writing and performance festival that premiered on Nov 7! Check out the SOLOS webpage for details, and to watch the monologues.

Fermentation features the following artists showing recent works created during their Carleton Educational Associate/St. Olaf Fifth Year Emerging Artists experience: Eddie Bryson V, Thomas Hardy, Sijin Kim, Junyi Min, Paddy Mittag-McNaught, and Alekz Thoms. Creativity is Essential! this years’ All School Art Show features images and reflections that each Art Teacher selected which best summarize their collective teaching experience during this unprecedented year. Enjoy E-magination Celebration virtually from the comfort of home!

2020 Annual Members Exhibition is a popular, community-wide exhibition showcasing the work of Guild Members (63 in 2020) in a wide cross section of media. 20/20 Optics: New Approaches features works by five regional artists Sheri Grube, Sharol Nau, Michael Ruth, Erika Terwilliger and Annie Young. The work in this exhibition showcases how each of these artists explore traditional methods and media with fresh perspectives and techniques. The video tour of the exhibition can be viewed here. Centered Mindfulness features installation works by six regional artists Marilyn Larson, Tim Lloyd, John Saurer, Jan Shoger, Elizabeth Simonson and Michon Weeks. Each artist has developed a specific visual language that aims to shift viewers’ perspective toward a more meditative view of the world, either through repetitive forms, mathematical theories, grid systems or circular structures. A Whole Bunch of Art, the Honors Art Show featuring work from the Honors Art class at Northfield High School, can be viewed here. Discover Handmade • Get Inspired • Support Regional Artists
Our first ever Virtual Festival kicked off on Sept 12! The 2020 Virtual Riverfront Fine Arts Festival features a tremendous variety of local and regional artists offering their works for sale, accompanied by online artist interviews, demonstrations and studio tours.
Visitors and shoppers can experience the Guild’s Virtual Festival through the Festival web page that features artist profiles, links to shop participating artists’ online stores, and engaging videos.
Virtual Art Making: Tune in anytime and get creative using items commonly found in your house! Jennie leads viewers through a variety of fun projects in this line up of art making videos.
Open Art is back in person! Join us, Saturday, February 26 from 10am-2pm, during Imagination Celebration, in the Guild Art Studio as we use all sorts of fun art supplies to make guided projects or your own creations… Can’t wait to see you there!
Classes: Classes depend on enrollment – so please register! If for any reason classes cannot take place as scheduled, we will work with you to offer an online option, reschedule the program or refund you in full. View the full list of classes and register on our Classes page.

Art@Home: Education and Engagement Manager Jennie Eubank has been creating instructional videos to follow along and make your own at-home art projects. Check out the playlist of art making videos on YouTube, with new videos being added on a regular basis!
Open Art: Once a month, we host Open Art. This summer we transitioned back to in-person art making! Upcoming dates can be found on the Community Art Making page.
The Guild’s Gift Shop features handmade artwork by over 100 member artists, many of them local. Consider art as a token of appreciation for someone special in your life, or something to brighten your workspace at home.
In addition to in-person shopping hours: Thurs-Fri, 12-5 and Sat, 11-4, Visual Arts Manager Heather Lawrenz can help you shop remotely and provide curbside pick-up or local no-contact delivery, or can ship the items directly to you. More information can be found on the Gift Shop page.
Jim Bohnhoff has created a coloring page of the Guild for you to fill in at home! Get your own for free by downloading the PDF below and coloring your own version of the Guild. If the download doesn’t work, right-click and save the file as a PDF on your desktop to print at home.
Guild member artists have been virtually inviting the public to see behind the scenes at their studios. Studio visit tour videos can be viewed on our Artist Professional Development page. Springboard for the Arts has a list of resources available for artists impacted by COVID-19, including an application for an Emergency Relief Fund. More information on their website.
Minnesota Citizens for the Arts has compiled a list of regional, state, and national grants and relief programs for artists. A list can be found on the MCA website.
Artist Relief is a coalition of national arts grantmakers to create an emergency initiative offering financial and informational resources to artists across the United States.
Minnesota Council of Nonprofits has created a Minnesota Grants Directory that can be accessed online here detailing ways that various grantmakers are adjusting their processes for 2020.
